Aids / Equipment

Within the Illawarra, Kids Fund spends about $100,000 per year purchasing aids and equipment for children with special needs and significant disabilities. This is a substantial community need and unfortunately we are unable to assist all families requesting our help. That is why your support is so important.

Kids Fund provides items which have been identified by a suitably qualified professional, as appropriate to the child’s needs and only provides assistance to families or individuals not eligible for funding through other sources. Families are usually asked to contribute the first $100 per year towards equipment purchases irrespective of the number of items approved.

Some examples of what can be provided include:

  • Wheelchair ramps for Vehicles
  • Ramp & Restraint fittings
  • Horseshoe cushions for head positioning
  • Walking Frames
  • Ankle Foot Orthosis
  • Manual Wheelchairs
  • Electric Wheelchairs
  • Strollers
  • Splints
  • Sleeping Systems
  • Day & Night Positioning Systems
  • Orthopaedic Boots
  • Form Fitted Seating & Supports
  • Growth Kits
  • Computer Programs
  • Communicators
  • Alternate Positioning Systems

Items approved by the Committee must be purchased within a 6 month period. Generally, reusable items remain the property of the KIDS Fund, care of The Disability Trust. Any item of equipment returned for re-use to The Disability Trust, ADHC or SESIAHS, will be re-allocated according to priority set by the Allocations Committee.
